Two Pathways to Professional Practice

Massage Therapy Education Center offers two program options:

  • A 500-hour Core Program designed to meet Texas licensure requirements
  • A 600-hour Advanced Clinical Program for students seeking additional supervised experience and clinical confidence

Both programs follow a structured hybrid format combining online coursework, hands-on training, and real-world application.

Core Program

500 Hour Licensing Program

The Core Program is a 500-hour massage therapy training program designed to meet the minimum education requirements established by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) for massage therapy licensure.

This program provides a structured foundation in both the science and application of massage therapy. Students develop a working knowledge of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and pathology, while simultaneously building hands-on proficiency in fundamental massage techniques including Swedish massage, therapeutic applications, and introductory clinical reasoning.

Instruction is delivered through a hybrid learning model, combining guided online coursework with in-person technique training. This approach allows students to engage with academic material at a consistent pace while receiving direct supervision and feedback during hands-on instruction.

As students progress, emphasis is placed on safe practice, professional standards, and the ability to assess and respond to common musculoskeletal conditions. The program prepares students not only to meet licensing requirements, but to enter the profession with a clear understanding of proper technique, client communication, and ethical responsibility.

Completion of the 500-hour Core Program qualifies the student to apply for licensure as a massage therapist in the State of Texas, provided all additional state requirements are met.

Advanced Clinical Program

600 Hour Program

Students who complete the Advanced Clinical Program graduate with greater hands-on experience, increased clinical confidence, and stronger preparation for independent practice.

The Advanced Clinical Program is an extended 600-hour training pathway that builds upon the Core 500-hour licensing program by incorporating an additional 100 hours of supervised clinical application. This program is ideal for students who want additional supervised experience before entering independent practice.

While the 500-hour program satisfies the minimum requirement for licensure, the Advanced Clinical Program is designed to provide additional structured, supervised experience to strengthen clinical confidence, consistency, and real-world application prior to entering independent practice.

These additional hours are completed in a supervised setting working with members of the public, allowing students to apply classroom knowledge through repetition, instructor-guided feedback, and exposure to a broader range of client presentations.

Completion of the Advanced Clinical Program results in a total of 600 hours of training and reflects an increased level of practical experience beyond the minimum licensing requirement.
